Louise also was known as Louisa or Lizzie. She was born in Germany and died at Fairbury, NE. She came to the United States with her parents when she was six weeks old. The story passed down through the years is that her mother made her a burial dress as she feared her baby daughter would not survive the long ocean voyage from Germany to America. Lizzie not only survived the journey, but she lived to raise a dozen children of her own. She grew up north of Jansen, NE, in the Braasch log cabin. She was confirmed at the Cub Creek church in 1884. Her confirmation record (printed in a booklet of the 90th anniversary of the church) records her name as "Elise". This is the German form of Louise or Louisa. She married Carl Wolter, Sr. They farmed northeast of Jansen, NE, and were the parents of 13 children. One baby boy died at birth (he was the 8th child).
In her later years, Lizzie suffered with crippling arthritis and was confined to a wheelchair. After Carl's death she resided in Fairbury, NE. At one time her sister-in-law, Emelia Korthals Braasch, resided with her. She lived her last years in a Fairbury nursing home. (This information was obtained from the Braasch family history compiled by Malvery Braasch Wendt - 1983)
