OBITUARY

S. P. VAN NICE
S. P. Van Nice, a former resident of this county, died at the hospital in Chicago on Thursday morning, April 18, 1901, after an extended illness with tuberculosis.
The remains were brought to Chariton, accompanied by his brother, Orion Van Nice, and on Saturday afternoon at one o'clock, funeral services, conducted by Rev. A. C. Ormond, were held at the First Presbyterian church, after which interment took place in the Chariton cemetery.
For several years Mr. Van Nice was in the employ of the Northwestern railroad and his fellow employees sent a number of beautiful floral tributes. Two years ago he was taken ill and has since been in the hospital.
With his parents he resided in this county from childhood and had many warm friends here who will learn of his death with deep regret. Samuel P. Van Nice was born November 29, 1853, and at the time of his death was in his forty-seventh year.
