JAMES O. VAN NICE
James O. Van Nice, son of William Harris and Mary E. Verbrike Van Nice, was born March 22, 1868, and departed this life Jan. 3, 1961.
He spent his early years in Chicago as a pharmacist, and the remainder of his life as the president of the First State Bank of McLaughlin, S. Dak. He was the first mayor of McLaughlin and contributed the majority of his time to community projects. He was very active in all organizations, both locally and state-wide.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at the Woodman Funeral Home in Russell, Friday, Jan. 6, with the Rev. John Orange officiating. Interment was at the Chariton cemetery.
