Margaret "Maggie" Benge McLain was the daughter of Samuel Houston Benge and Nannie Brewster Benge. She was educated at Fort Gibson and the Cherokee Female Seminary.

Margaret "Maggie" Benge McLain married Jesse McLain July 17, 1885, the son of Calvin McLain and Charlotte Martin McLain who was educated in the Cherokee Public Schools and the Cherokee Male Seminary; both were of Cherokee descent.

They were the parents of: Nannie Lee, Samuel Houston, Calvin Cross, Eliza Jane, George Washington, and Charlotte Benge.

Mrs. Maggie McLain, 60, died Friday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lewis Rogers of Fort Gibson, following a brief illness.

She is survived by her husband, Jess McLain; three sons, Sam of Fort Gibson, George of Tulsa and Calvin of Arizona; three daughters, Mrs. Rogers, Mrs. L. A. Coffin (Chaffin) of Shawnee and Mrs. Anna Smith of Tulsa; a brother, Sam Benge and a sister, Mrs. Henry Reese, both of Fort Gibson.

Funeral services will be held at the home of Mrs. Rogers this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in the Fort Gibson cemetery under the direction of the Street-Eicholtz Funeral Home.
