Samuel "Sam" Houston Benge Jr. was the son of Samuel Benge Sr. & Nannie Brewster; he was born in Ft. Gibson, Illinois Dist., Cherokee Nation, IT; he had the following siblings: Margaret, Theodore, Richard, & Jennie Benge Riese (buried at this cem.). He also had the following half siblings (mother Lucy Blair): George Washington (Judge), Martin Van, & Ross Lomy Benge.

He married Sallie "Josephine" Walker (buried at Citizens); they had the following children: Caroline Benge b. Mar 3, 1896; Samuel Houston Benge III, b. Feb. 26, 1898; Jack R. Benge b. Dec. 19, 1901; Jeff M. Benge b. Dec. 03, 1904; Tim F. Benge; and Billy B. Benge.

He is listed on the 1880 Cherokee Nation Census: Illinois, 52; 1890 CN Census: Illinois, 1678; Dawesd Roll: card# 1764, roll# 4698; Miller Roll: Ft. Gibson, OK, ap# 7900, roll# 4891; Blood: 1/8 Cherokee.
