Laura Margrete Berg was born July 30, 1898, in Climax, Minnesota, seventh child of Hans and Severine Berg. She was baptized in the Sand Hill Lutheran Church on August 28, 1898, and confirmed November 16, 1913.

In 1917, Laura was married to Helmer Bangen, and they had four daughters: Mildred Verna, Helen who died as an infant, Ruby Lorna and Fyliees Iverine.

On May 25, 1924, at the age of 25, Laura died, leaving Helmer to raise their three daughters. Two years later in 1926, Helmer married Laura's youngest sister, Hannah Berg, and she raised the girls as her own, along with the five children she and Helmer had together. Laura is buried in the Sand Hill Lutheran Church cemetery.
