Richard Henry Sterling, 54, of Naxera, died unexpectedly on Sunday, Sept. 8 in a Newport News hospital. He was a civilian employee of the Naval Weapons Station at Yorktown and a member of Severn Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Margaret Mahoney Sterling, of Naxera; two daughters, Miss Marie Sterling and Miss Littie Sterling, both of Severn; seven sisters, Mrs. Boyd Clements of Williamsburg, Mrs. Nettie Hillers, Mrs. Carl Luckert and Mrs. Rufus Hudgins of Norfolk, Mrs. Ellen Selden of Upper Darby, Pa., Mrs. Harold F. Gwyn of Naxera and Mrs. Preston Edwards of Gloucester Point; two brothers, J. Cecil Sterling and James Edward Sterling both of Naxera; four half-brothers, Harry Byrd Sterling and Herbert Hoover Sterling both of Glass, Charles Curtis Sterling of Norfolk and Eugene Sterling of the U.S. Navy; and one half-sister, Mrs. Lorraine Jenkins, of Bena.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Severn Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. John S. Jennings, pastor. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Daniel Deal, Elmo Sterling, Sr., Robert Sterling, Lester Sterling, Joe Gwyn and Harold F. Gwyn, Jr. Members of the Men's Bible Class served as honorary pallbearers.

The body rested at the Bridges Funeral Home, Gloucester.
