Of Shawmut
Buried Sat.
Mr. W. C. Champion passed away at his home on Thursday, April 2, after an illness of several weeks. He was born at Daviston in Tallapoosa County, Alabama, 66 years ago last December 13. He had been a citizen of Shawmut since 1915.
He is survived by his wife, four sons: Will Champion, of Wadley, Elgie, Horace and Eley, of Shawmut; five daughters, Mrs. Zanna Worthy, of Alexander City, Mrs. Lala Tyson, of LaFayette, Mrs. Veleria Franklyn, Mrs. Correll Smith and Mrs. Kathalene Meacham, of Shawmut; five brothers and one sister. M. A. and A. C. Champion of Alexander City, O. A. Champion, of Ashland, E. L. and C. G. Champion , of Shawmut, and Mrs. Ora Duffey, of Langdale. Also forty one grandchilren and one great-grandchld.
Mr. Champion has been a member of the Baptist churdch for forty eight years.
The funeral services were conducted at the Baptist church by Rev. E. U. Calvert, the Baptist pastor, assisted by Rev. L. M. Harris, the pastor of the Methodist church. The pallbearers were six grandsons and the flower girls werehis granddaughters and nieces.
The burial was in the Shawmut cemetery with Johnson and Company funeral directors in charge.
