Worker, Dies
Elige Thomas Champion, 67, of Shawmut died at 2:50 today at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital, Langdale, following a brief serious illness. He had been declining in health for the past two years.
Mr. Champion, a native of Tallapoosa County, Ala., had been a resident of Shawmut 42 years, and was a retired employee of the Shawmut Mill. He was a member of the Antioch Christian Church in Tallapoosa County.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Emma Steadham Champion, of Shawmut; two daughters, Mrs. Annie Ruth Newman of Flint, Mich., and Mrs. Sara Hughey of Valpariso, Fla.; a son, Jamew W. Champion, of Shawmut; five sisters, Mrs. Alvin Worthy and Mrs. Alberrt Smith, both of Shawmut, Mrs. Nathan Franklin of Lanett, Mrs. Leila Tyson of Atlanta and Mrs. Kathleen Forrester of Huntsville, Ala.; two brothers, Horace Champion of Shawmut and Eley Champion of Wetumpka, Ala.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
