He married the widow Myrtle Iva (Shanks) Maulding on 9 Jun 1929 in Neosho, Newton, Missouri, USA. Myrtle had 2 children from a previous marriage: daughter Walta E Maulding, and son Dwight Maulding. Myrtle is also buried in the Seneca Cemetery.
Melvin passed away in Delaware County, Oklahoma, USA on 22 Nov 1954 and is buried in the Seneca Cemetery in Seneca, Newton, Missouri, USA.
