His parents were Robert Franklin Prater and Cynthia Ann Rice Prater. He moved to Pineville in 1865 and married Sarah Jane Kenney from Tennessee on 17 Feb, 1876 in Pineville, MO. Together they had 10 children. He always listed his occupation as farmer. In addition to farming, Henry served 3 terms as a Probate Judge for McDonald Co.,MO, 1 term as Collector of Taxes and was a Justice of the Peace in his later years. He was also Grand Master of his Masonic Lodge for 7 years.
