7/8/1971 Oil City Derrick - R. Johnston, Native of Sligo Dies - SLIGO - Ray I. Johnston, 62, of 1613 Everett Ave., Youngstown, Ohio, former resident of Sligo and Rimersburg and former employee of General Electric, died at 6:40 p.m. Friday in South Side Hospital at Youngstown. Born October 29, 1906, in Sligo, he was a son of S.S. and Mary Myers Johnston. He spent his early years in Sligo and Rimersburg, moving to Youngstown 27 years ago. He worked as a foreman for General Electric for 29 years. Mr. Johnston was a member of the Western Reserve United Methodist Church, the Amity Class and Protestant Men's organization. He and the former Fonda Fowler were married September 9, 1939. She survives along with three brothers, James Johnston of Sligo, Eugene Johnston of Huey and Paul Johnston of Lock Haven; and eight sisters, Mrs. Ruth Larimer, Mrs. Evelyn Wensel and Mrs. Helen Best of Sligo, Mrs. Ida J. Bennett of Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Grace Wetzel of Burnside, Mrs. Frances Getson of La Have, Nova Scotia, Canada, Mrs. Mary Wood of Van and Mrs. Violet Kiehl of Mayport. A brother and two sisters are deceased. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Davis Velker Funeral Home in Youngstown.
