Sligo-James Allen Johnston, 78, of Sligo, a life-long resident of the Sligo area, died Saturday in the Brookville Hospital, following a short illness.

He was born December 3, 1900, in Piney Township, Clarion County, a son of Steele and Mary Ellen Myers Johnston.

He was married January 5, 1921, to the former Marie Burns, who survives.

Mr. Johnston worked as a carpenter and a coal miner. He was a member of the United Mine Workers union, Sligo United Methodist Church and the IOOF of Sligo.

An avid sportsman and hunter, Mr. Johnston also belonged to the Sligo Sportsman's Club.

In addition to his wife, Marie, he is survivied by two sons, Robert Johnston pf Summerville and Clifford Johnston of Rimersburg; four daughters, Mrs. Dwight(Lois) Filligrove of Callensburg, Mrs. Russell (Leona) painter of Sligo RD, and Mrs. Charles(Jeanne) Laughlin of New Bethlehem and Mrs. Albert (Patricia) Klingensmith of Sligo.

Also, a brother, Eugene Johnston of Huey; four sisters, Mrs. Francis Getson of Nova Sctia, Mrs. Evelyn Wensel of Sligo, Mrs. Mary Wood of Cranberry RD and Mrs. Violet Keihl of Mayport; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

An infant daughter, Betty Alma, preceded him in death. Also deceased are six sisters, Mabel, Ruth, Grace, Anna, Myrtle, Helen, and Ida, and three brothers, Scott, Ray, and Paul.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Hawk Funeral Home in Sligo. The IOOF will hold a memorial service at 9 p.m. tomorrow in the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Rev. Dale Rhodes, pastor of Sligo United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Interment will be in Sligo Cemetery
