Elwood Clifford Beito, 78, of Greenbush, MN died on Sunday, February 2, 2003 at the Greenbush Nursing Home in Greenbush, MN

Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 6, 2003 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Thief Lake with Rev. Sandra Hollands officiating. Casketbearers were Aaron Beito, Derek Beito, Boe Beito, Chris Beito, Philip Burda and Darwin Klemetson. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Strathcona, MN with military homors accorded by the Middle River American Legion poist #444 and the Thief River Falls VFW Post #2793.

Elwood Clifford Beito was born on May 27, 1924, the son of Gilbert and Sophie (Underdahl) Beito in Huss Township of Roseau County, MN. He attended rural school and was raised near Strathcona, MN and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He entered the United States Army in 1945, serving as a Carpenter General. He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, an Army of Occupation Medal, as well as a World War II Victory Medal after serving in Japan. Following his discharge in 1946 he bought a farm, worked in the woods in the winter and worked as a carpenter in the summer.

On March 24, 1948, he married Joyce Osse in Gatzke. The couple farmed in Como Township, and in 1959, bought their farm in Huss Township, where they resided for many years. Elwood was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Thief Lake, the Middle River American Legion Post and the Thief River Falls VFW Post. For the past three years, he has resided at the Greenbush Nursing Home

Survivors include his wife, Joyce; five children, Daryl (Nina) of Greenbush, Diane (Wayne) Klemetson of Thief River Falls, Daniel (Jean) of Middle River, DelRay (Rhonda) of Strathcona, and Audrey Beito of Thief River Falls; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; one brother, Arne (Thora) of Wannaska; two sisters; Alice Taus of Crookston, MN and MoReen Bahr of Green Acres, WA; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Elwood was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Lennie, Gilman, Marvin, Harry, Walter, Gerald and Palmer; and two sisters, Gladys and Lillie.
