Harry Beito, the son of the late Gilbert and Sophie (Underdahl) Beito, was born on December 22, 1918, in Huss Township of Roseau County, near Strathcona, MN. He attended school and grew to manhood there and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Harry served with the U.S. Army from 1941 until 1945, serving in New Guinea. Following discharge, he returned to the Strathcona community. On November 5, 1945, Harry was united in marriage to Wilma Willard at Thief River Falls. The couple lived and farmed in Huss Township for many years. He was a member of the Middle River American Legion Post for many years. Harry enjoyed hunting, trapping, and the outdoors, and especially his time spent with his family. Wilma passed away July 19, 1999, and Harry continued to make his home on his farm near Strathona.
He is survived by two sons: Mike (Sue) and Mitch (Michele), both of Thief River Falls; three daughters: Barb Hanson of Viking, Susie, Mrs. Roger Wojciechowski, of Warroad, MN and Shirley Brazier of Greenbush; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Elwood (Joyce) of Middle River, and Arne (Thora) of Wannaska, MN; two sisters: Alice Taus of Crookston, MN, and Maureen Bahr of Green Acres, WA; in addition to many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Harry was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one grandson, Jason in 1979; one granddaughter, Tammy in 1989 and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were on Friday, August 16, 2002, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Thief Lake, MN, with Pastor Sandra Hollands officiating. Special music was provided by Pat Hanson, organist, and the Beito family. Casket bearers were Harry's grandsons. Interment was in Our Savior's Church Cemetery, Thief Lake, MN. Military honors were accorded by the Middle River American Legion Post #444.
