Jasper Woodrow "Bud" Hubbard, the son of Edmund W and Mercedes A (Haskin) Hubbard, was born December 17, 1917 at Page, Neb. He departed this life on Saturday, November 14, 1992 at the Heritage Care Center in Red Cloud at the age of 74 years, 10 months and 27 days.

Jasper received his formal education attending school at Page and Orchard before moving in 1926 with his family to Ft Laramie, Wyo. He attended grade school near his farm home at Ft Laramie and graduated from the Ft Laramie High School. He returned to Nebraska where he farmed in the Creighton area. In October of 1941, he joined the United States Army where he served his country during World War II in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. Following his discharge from service in June of 1944, he returned to continue farming. He then attended business college in Lincoln. He later moved to Hastings where he was employed at the Ammunition Depot.

On July 3, 1957 he was united in marriage with Dolores Jean Schultz at Guide Rock. In 1959, they moved to Iowa City, Iowa where he worked at the Veteran's Administration Hospital. In 1966, they moved to Kansas City, Mo., to make their home where he was employed with the Department of Health and Human Services as a claims supervisor. He also worked for a brief time with B T Brown Realty in Riverside, Mo. He retired and moved to Guide Rock in 1979.

Jasper enjoyed many interests and hobbies. He did fly-tying, leather carving and lapidary work. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and rock and fossil hunting. Having married later in life, Jasper especially enjoyed his family and was active in caring for his children.

The last few years he looked forward to coffee with friends and acquaintances and the story telling and discussions that accompanied these hours.

He was a member of the Guide Rock United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the D A V in Hastings and N A R F. He also belonged to the Guide Rock American Legion Post No 278 and the Central Nebraska Gem and Mineral Society at Hastings.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Oscar, Arthur, Guy, Charlie and Earl and two sisters, Auralea Hubbard and Edna Geisler.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Dolores J Hubbard of Guide Rock; a son, Edward W Hubbard of Gladstone, Mo.; a daughter, Susan Kay Hubbard of Lincoln; a brother, Clarence Hubbard of Casper, Wyo., three sisters, Lottie Faith of Creighton, Alma Korb of McCook and Sarah Everal Ritterling of Longmont, Colo.; other relatives and his many friends.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Nov 18, 1992 from the United Methodist Church in Guide Rock with the Reverend Marilyn Warren officiating. Evelyn Thompson was the vocalist, accompanied by Shirley Hunter, organist. The casket bearers were Russell Schultz, Terry Korb, Robert Geisler, Harold Timmons, Calvin Weeks and Melvin Kohlof. Interment was in the Guide Rock Cemetery with the Simonson-Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud in charge of the arrangements.
