Edmund P. Gehrig, 89, formerly of 1518 N. Ninth Street, Sheboygan, and a resident of the Sheboygan Retirement Home for the past four years, died at the Beach Health Care Center Thursday, Oct. 9, 1986.
He was born May 13, 1897, in St. Nazianz, a son of the late Bernard and Rosa Heinzen Gehrig. He attended St. Gregory Catholic School, St. Nazianz.
Mr. Gehrig served in the U.S. Army during World War I, and came to the Sheboygan area in 1924.
He was an employee of the U.S. Postal Services from 1936 until retiring in 1962.
Mr. Gehrig was a member of Holy Name Catholic church, a member of the American Legion Prescott-Beyens Post No. 83, the Knight of Columbus Council No. 722, Sheboygan, the retired Federal Employees Association and a former Member of the Liederkrantz Society.
Survivors include a son, Paul of Sheboygan; three daughters, Mrs. Germaine Wuestenhagen of Sheboygan Falls, Mrs. Ed (Mary Jane) Renaud of Appleton, and Mrs. Terry (Barbara) Gartman of Winter Park, Florida; 18 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three brothers, Joseph of Manitowoc, Herman of Sheboygan and Hubert of DePere; and seven sisters, Mrs. Isabelle Fessler and Rose Gehrig, both of Manitowoc, Mrs. Maline Schultz of Rockford, Illinois, Mrs. Ann Diehl of Newport Richey, Florida, Mrs. Olga Powers and Mrs. Margaret Pribyl, both of Chicago, Illinois and Mrs. Eleanor Radwick of Sheboygan.
He was preceded in death by a son, a grandson, a brother and a sister.
A funeral Mass was held at Holy Name Catholic Church. Rev. William Effinger, pastor, was celebrant of the Mass. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
