Ruth Williams passed away Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. She was born March 26, 1920, to William Richmond and Pearlie Mae (Cottingham) Perry. She had lived in Mertens, Texas, most of her life and graduated from high school there. On March 4, 1939, she married L.A. "Hotshot" Williams in Hillsboro. He preceded her in death Aug. 28, 2001. They farmed in Mertens for many years. A member of First Baptist Church in Mertens, she taught preschool Sunday school for nearly 40 years and was very active in all areas of the church. She loved to sew and tend to her flowers and vegetable garden. She was an excellent seamstress and cook. Ruth was a lifetime member of Eastern Star in Hillsboro.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were her parents, three sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by four children, Julia Lynn Muesse and husband, Curtis, of Stone Mountain, Ga., Charles R. Williams and wife, Sue, of Grand Prairie, Sandra Kay Moreland of Mesquite and Charlotte Elaine Gardner of Waxahachie; two brothers, C.D. Perry and wife, Joann, of Fort Worth and Marion Perry and wife, Neva, of Seagoville; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at First Baptist Church of Mertens with interment in Richland Cemetery in Mertens.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Arrangements were under the direction of Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors, 2495 Corsicana Highway, Hillsboro, Texas.
