Jane had been gathering kindling wood on the Columbus school grounds and was going to her home, it was said. Witesses reported that she stopped when halfway across the pavement and was apparently confused by the flow of traffic, started running directly in the path of the driver's car. The car, traveling west, knocking her against another car that had stopped to wait for traffic to clear so the driver could drive on the highway. Death was caused by internal injuries. She also suffered cuts, bruises, and both arms were broken. She lived only about 2 hours after the accident.
