John was the son of James & Elizabeth Mariah Middleton Sherrow. He married Mahala Graham, the daughter of James H. & Millie Dennis Graham, on September 9, 1858 in Garrard County. The couple were the parents of William M., George, Mary Ann, James, Millie, James, Benjamin, Allen, Clara, John E., Maggie, Elisha, Mariah Candice and Clementine "Tina" Sherrow. Mr. Sherrow supported his large family by farming his own land.

•Mr. John Sherrow aged 76 died at his home at this place Saturday evening. He became ill Friday night and suffered intensely until the end. He leaves a wife and six children and a number of great-grandchildren to mourn the loss. Interment took place at Mt. Hebron cemetery Monday morning. The family has the sympathy of the entire community.
