Clara was the daughter of John & Mahala Graham Sherrow. Her headstone is a homemade one. The carver used chisel point marks, as a guide, to keep the inscription in a straight line while he worked. These marks are still visible on the stone. One can only imagine the hours it took to inscribe this whole poem, with only a chisel and hammer to use as tools. This labor of love is a testament to how cherished Clara was by her family.

•The Sherrow family was enumerated in the 1870 census of Garrard County on the 18th of July. The enumerator listed Clara's age as 4/12 and her birth month as March. She was born in 1870, but I have had to add her birth year as 1869, to Find a Grave, to keep the birth order, since John E. Sherrow/Shearer's headstone has an 1870 DOB carved upon it. His DC also notes his YOB as 1870 and it would be difficult to convince the owner of the memorial that this DOB is not correct. It should actually be 1872.
•The inscription on the headstone is in block letters of the same case, only the size differs. The name is in very large letters, the dates in large letters and the poem in smaller letters. I have used both upper and lower case to transcribe the poem. The use of all upper case letters would make it difficult to read.

A precious one to us has gone,
A voice we loved is still.
A place is vacant in our home
Which never can be filled.
God in His wisdom has recalled
The boon His love had given
And though the body slumbers here
The soul is safe in Heaven
