John William "Bill" Boren was born to Maurice Elmer Boren and Mabel Hannah Bagg Boren on August 25, 1900, in rural York County, near Waco. He passed away at the Fairview Manor in Fairmont on Friday, Sept. 6, 1996, at the age of 96 years, and 11 days. He was one of seven children in the family.

As a child, he lived in Genoa and McCool Junction, and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1920.

He owned and operated lumber yards in Fairmont and Exeter.

During World War II, he served on the Ration Board and was City Clerk for many years. He was most proud of being instrumental in the building of Fairview Manor in Fairmont.

Bill was honored in May of 1992, as being the oldest surviving student of Fairmont High School.

He was a member of Fairmont Lodge No. 48 A.F. & A.M., receiving his 50 year pin in October of 1990, at a special ceremony held at Fairview Manor.

He was a lifetime member and benefactor of what is now the Fairmont Community Church. During his active, working years, Bill was respected as an excellent business man who knew that success was built by good hard work. Bill sold his business in 1980, and retired to Grand Island to be near his family. He returned to Fairmont to reside at Fairview Manor in June of 1990.

He was united in marriage to Neyta Faye Riggle on July 10, 1920, in Geneva. Two sons, Francis and Jack, blessed this marriage.

He is survived by four grandchildren, Jerry Boren of Lake Tahoe, Calif., Bill Boren of Tucson, Ariz., David Boren of Fort Collins, Colo. and Kimberly Scott of Grand Island; sister, Lorena White of Corvallis, Ore.; and by a host of relatives and friends.

Graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m. from the Fairmont Public Cemetery on Wednesday, Sept. 11, with the Rev. Laura Bartels officiating. Burial was in the family lot next to his wife, Neyta Faye.
