William Ellison Burt was the oldest of seven sons born to John Burt and Eliza Goleman Burt. His brothers were Louis Alfred, John Burton, Elijah Keen, Charley, Franklin O'Banion and Emmett. Charley and Emmett died in childhood.
William Ellison also had two sisters, Adelphenia and Mary Elizabeth. They were all born and grew up in Clarke County, MS. Following the custom if the day, William Ellison, the first son was named for his two grandfathers, Ellison Burt and William Goleman.
William Ellison married his first cousin, Margaret "Peggy" Goleman on 20 January 1881 in Clarke County, MS.
That is where their first four children were born. They were John Levi, William E. Leonidas, Ikey Eunice, and Julia E. Louise (Cannie). The last child, Mary Arrata was born 16 October 1896 in Lauderdale County, MS and that is where the family remained.
He is buried in an unmarked grave.
