Elijah Keen Burt was the fifth of 9 children born to John Burt and Eliza Goleman Burt. He had two sisters and 6 brothers. Two of the brothers died in childhood. "Lige" as he was called, worked on the family farm and grew up to marry Logenia Hastine (Jean) Schrimpshire on
15 November 1891 in Clarke County, MS. Jean would bear Lige six sons and a daughter.
Unfortunately, he did not live to see his children grow up. He died at age 44 of an infection that resulted in blood poisoning.
