SERVICES HELD SATURDAY AT RED OAK AND COBURG
RILEY ELLWOOD JONES:
The funeral of Riley Elwood Jones, 21, was held at his home in Coburg on Saturday afternoon. Rev. John Branson, Methodist circuit minister conducted the service. Pallbearers were: Jack Bellis, Cliff Houser, Tom Houser, Glenn Bellis, Jack Conley, and Frank Copenhaver. Burial was in Franklin Grove Cemetery.
Riley Jones, a son of John M. and Alta M. (Van Kirk) Jones, was born November 14, 1902. He was one of a family of 10 children and his death was the first in the family. Riley Jones lost his life early Thursday morning,, when the automobile in which he was riding missed a bridge near Franklin Grove Corner and plunged into a ravine, twenty feet deep, turning over as it went. The accident happened early Thursday morning as he was returning from Shenandoah with three other men.
His father, John M. Jones, is section forman at Coburg, Iowa. Riley was a musician and had frequently broadcasted from radio station KICK and the Shenandoah stations, KMA and KFNF. He was a favorite among his friends.
Riley Jones is survived by his parents and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Nora Abbott of Union, Nebraska; Lee, Bonnie, Kenneth, Chester, Naomi, Delmont, Jack and John Junior.
Relatives at the funeral from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Chauncey Pickett and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Summers of Halfa, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Cass of Shenandoah, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Jones and two daughters of New Market, Iowa; S. Jones of Wheeling, Missouri; Mr. and Mrs. Lou Fox and daughter, Viola and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Jones and sons, Floyd and Verdon, of Red Oak, Iowa.
Lee Jones, who was also injured in the accident was able to leave the Red Oak hospital and attend the funeral.
