John W. "Junior" Jones, age 81, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Sunday, March 25, 2007 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. John W. "Junior" Jones was born March 1, 1926 in Coburg, Iowa the son of John and Alta (Van Kirk) Jones. He attended school at Coburg and Red Oak. After his schooling he worked at Murphy Calendar Company until he turned 18, at which time he was drafted into the United States Air Force during WWII. After his military duty he worked in construction and at the Union Carbide. Junior was united in marriage to Fern Milgrove on July 13, 1950 in Red Oak, Iowa. They purchased their first restaurant in 1952 and later purchased the Rainbow Café. He was a former member of the American Legion and the Red Oak Eagles Lodge.
Junior was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Fern Jones on May 19, 2001; son: John Jones; grandsons: Joe Jones and David Lee Jones; brothers: Lee, Riley, Kenneth, Chester, Delmont, and Jack Jones; and sisters: Bonnie Abbott, Nora Abbott and Naomi Spittler. Survivors include his son: Marty Jones and wife Cathy of Carbon, Iowa; daughter: Denice "Sis" Bogenreif and husband Jeff of Greenville, Illinois; grandchildren: Cindy Walker and husband Steve of Red Oak, Iowa; Angie Jones of Red Oak, Iowa; Jeb Jones of Des Moines, Iowa; Jenny Warren and husband David of Glenwood, Iowa; Amber Bryan of Red Oak, Iowa; Landon Jones of Seattle, Washington; and Andrew Jones and wife Susan of Red Oak, Iowa; great grandchildren: Carly and Macy Walker and Tara and Keegan Jones all of Red Oak, Iowa; Seth and Derek Warren of Glenwood, Iowa; and Abbey Jones of Red Oak, Iowa; brother: Wally Jones and wife Louise of Red Oak, Iowa; many nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 10 AM Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Trevor Skalberg officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. There will be open visitation at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel.

John Jones Jr. (37734646) entered service on July 17, 1944 at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas and was discharged on July 4, 1946 at Ft. Sheridan, Illinois.
He was sent to Buckley Field, Colorado, for basic training then to Panama City, Florida for Sperry Ball Gunner Training on B24s. Next, came training at an air base in Georgia for airplane mechanic training.
He was next assigned to Salt Lake City, Utah port of embarkation, but the was declared over before he had to leave.
He received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Ribbon, and the WWII Victory Medal.
His rank at discharge was Sergeant, Army Air Force.

SGT DELMONT JONES WOUNDED VET HOME
Sgt. Delmont Jones hospitalized since wounded in action November 5, at Leyet, in overseas hospital and in the States, was brought to the home of his mother, Mrs. Alta Jones who resided in the Detwiller Apartments, 301 West Third Street, early Sunday morning from a government hospital in Topeka, Kansas in the Sellergren Ambulance, Delaine Sellergren and the serviceman's brother, Kenneth Jones made the trip to get him. He stood the trip "fairly" well. He is in a brace from his hip to his toes. He was shot thru the hip, had a broken leg, hit by shrapnel and suffered from jungle fever. He was homesick and had been given a 21 day furlough. Sunday 75 relatives and friends called to see him among them being his sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Abbott and children of Glenwood. He was the first group to go into Leyte and was among the first wounded to return to the United States. He will get to spend a portion of his time at home and then return to the hospital for further treatment.
Mrs. Alta Jones received a message Friday from the War Department saying that her son, Pvt, Jack Jones, had again been wounded and was in a hospital. He was with Patton's Third Army in Germany. He was wounded in the hand. Last August Pvt Jones received leg wounds in action and was hospitalized from August until after Christmas.
Mrs. Alta Jones, son John Jones, has won his wings and is ready for overseas action. He will get his furlough April 5 and will be home from Tindall Field, Florida, for a visit with his mother and wounded brother, Sgt. Delmont Jones.
Her fourth son in the service is Chester Jones, seaman first class with the Coast Guards along the Pacific.
