OBITUARY: The Cumberland Advocate, Cumberland, Wisconsin, dated 18 Jun 1931,
pg 1, col 4.
WORTHY SILVER LAKE WOMAN CALLED
Mrs. Maren Helena Grant died at the Island City hospital on Saturday, June 13, after having been an invalid suffering from a bad heart and dropsy for three years. Less than a week before her death she was taken to the hospital, where it was thought she might receive more skillful care than was possible at home.

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at the Section Ten Norwegian Lutheran church, at which Rev. E. F. Brandt officiated. Interment was in the Section Ten cemetery.
Those who attended the funeral from a far were Mr. and Mrs. Victor (Rena Omholt) Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Mads (Ethel Strom) Christensen, Mrs. Tom (Yarda Strom) Holmes and sons of Algona, Ia., Mrs. Evelyn (Johnson) Sorensen of La Verne, Ia., Mrs Abraham Peterson of Clam Falls, Carl Grant from Detroit, Mich., and Mrs Gust Moe of Rice Lake.
Maren Helena Omholt, daughter of Ole and Ellen Omholt, was born in Sansvar Song, Norway, on Oct. 27, 1867. She came to America in the spring of 1890, settling at Algona, Ia., where on Dec 1, 1898. she married Nels Grant. Their first home was established at Merycourt, N. Dak., where they resided until 1903, when they moved to the farm near the Silver Lake school on which has since been the home of the family.
Five son were born to this union, Carl Oscar Grant of Detroit, Mich.; Harold Ingvald, who died in 1914; Emmett Olaf Grant, Morton Howard Grant and Arnold Marvin Grant, who still live on the family homestead. Mr. Grant died in 1914,leaving her to carry on with four children none of whom had reached manhood.
But Mrs. Grant did not falter. With the assistance of industrious sons, the homestead has been constantly improved and the boys educated, the youngest having recently graduated from the Barron county training school with the highest honors.
Mrs. Grant was a woman whom all might follow as a worthy exponent of Christianity and patriotism, so filled was she with the homely virtues which make a woman beloved among her friend and neighbors.
NOTE: Maren Helene Olsdatter was born on Sunday the 27 Oct 1867 on the Omholt farm located in Eftelot parish area of Sandsvaer Prestegjeld of Buskerud county Norway. She was the third child born to Ole Olsen and Elen Marie Henriksdatter. She was the first of three sister who emigrated to America and settled in Algona. Her sister, Ingeborg Marie Omholt, married Louis Erik Strom
and her sister, Petrina (Rena) Olivia Omholt, married Victor Johnson. A brother, Christian Omholt, also emigrated and briefly resided in Algona before settling in Great Falls, Montana.
