Abbott, Walter L. (Sr)
"Walter L. Abbott Sr., 90, of Davenport died in this city Apr 7, 1988. He was born March 5, 1898 in Kirksville, MO to Isaac and Martha Abbott. He was the 11th of 12 children. He came with his parents to WA at the age of 14. He married his childhood sweetheart, Emily Marshall, on July 9, 1917 in Davenport. They raised five children while farming in the Harrington and Rocklyn areas, retiring in 1950 to Davenport. Mr. Abbott worked as a carpenter and for the Davenport Seed Company until his retirement. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Davenport, the Odd Fellows Lodge and the Wilson Grange. He and his wife, Emily, were grand marshals of the 1981 Davenport Pioneer Days Parade. The celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in July 1987. Survivors include: his wife, Emily, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, June and Bud Etter; four sons and daughters-in-law, Leonard and Mary Abbott, Dale and Hazel Abbott, Gerald Leroy and Anita Abbott, all of Davenport, and Glen and Ginger Abbott of Bellevue; one brother Jim Abbott of Harrington; 14 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held April 11 in the Zion Lutheran Church, Davenport. Pastor David Daugs officiated. Private interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery in Harrington. Strate Funeral Home was in charge."
