ARTHUR AXMEAR, FORMER CLERK OF COURT, DIES AT 87

Arthur Axmear, 87 of Methwick Manor, died Monday following a short illness. He had been a Cedar Rapids resident 41 years. Born October 18, 1880, at Keswick, he was married to Lina E. Allsup March 30, 1910, at What Cheer. Mr. Axmear was the Linn County Clerk from 1942 until his retirement in 1961. Prior to that he had been deputy Linn County Clerk since 1926.

He was a member of the Trinity Methodist church, Elks Club, Odd Fellows, Masonic Crescent lodge No. 25, a senior member of the Chamber of Commerce, was active in the Boy Scouts for 15 years and was a member of the Canopus club for 41 years.

Surviving are his wife, Lina; a son, Arthur Axmear, jr, of Cedar Rapids; three brothers, Bruce Axmear of Pasadena, Calif., Cecil Axmear of Sherman Oaks, Calif., and Sidney Axmear of North English, and three grandchildren.

Memorial services: Pending at the Cedar Memorial funeral home. Internment will be in the Chapel of Memories mausoleum. The casket will not be open after the service. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Tuesday.
