George Lee Romney, 85, died from a heart attack at his home Thursday, July 3, 2003, with his beloved wife Pearl Tenney Romney of 57 years.

Lee was born Nov. 4, 1917 in Cornish, Cache Valley, Utah to Park and Vilate Lee Romney. He was the fourth of nine children. Lee grew up in various small communities of Utah, with Salt Lake being the primary residence of his youth. He served a mission from July 1939 to Aug. 1941 in the Texas Louisiana Mission and entered the Armed Services Nov. 20, 1942 and is a Veteran of WWII.

He worked for Tenney Feed and Seed, Capital Feed and Seed, and Romney Produce. A serious accident in 1958 resulted in Lee returning to school where he earned his degree in Elementary Education and his Masters in Education in 1970. Lee also earned 60 credit hours towards his doctorate. Lee taught in the Flagstaff School District at Mt. Elden, Thomas, and Sechrist Elementary Schools from the fall of 1964 until his retirement in Jan. 1981.

Lee and Pearl served a Stake Mission in the Flagstaff Stake, a Stake Mission to the Lamanites in Flagstaff and a full time Mission to the Sidney Australia Mission and a Welfare Services Mission as the directors of the Church Employment Center in Mesa. He was ordained a Patriarch Jan. 21, 1979 by Elder Bruce R. McConkie, and served as a Patriarch in the Camp Verde Stake and the Mesa Stake. He taught Sunday school for many years in Flagstaff. At the time of his death he was assisting at the Family History Center in Snowflake. Lee was a Republic Precinct Committeeman in Navajo county at the time of his death.

Lee is survived by his eternal companion Pearl; and their five children, Marsha Stratton and Gerald "Jerry" Lee Romney of Sparks, Nevada, Shawna Jackson of Snowflake, Tami Farnsworth of Gilbert and Michele Garvin of Las Vegas, Nevada. Lee and Pearl have been blessed with 30 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

A visitation is scheduled for July 11 at 9 a.m. at the Temple View Chapel with the funeral services beginning at 10 a.m. Grave side services will be held Saturday, July 12 at the Old Fellows Cemetery in Prescott at 10 a.m. All services will be under the direction of Fletcher Funeral Home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fletcher's Mortuary.
