Mrs. Alma H. Chester, 70, widow of John N. Chester, former resident of 194 S. 4th Street died at 2:30 p.m. Friday in University Hospital, Columbus.
Mrs. Chester, who had been in failing health three years, had been at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry M. Krumlauf, 3478 S. Hamilton Rd., Columbus, since last November.
Her condition had been regarded as serious six weeks, and she was admitted to University Hospital April 14, for treatment preparatory to surgery. Death came during the operation Friday.
A native of Licking County, and a resident of Newark most of her life, Mrs. Chester was born Nov. 27, 1889 in Eden Township, the daughter of Alexander and Martha Jane (Levingston) Jones.
Her husband, John N. Chester, died Nov. 1, 1942, and she is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Krumlauf, and a son, John B. Chester of Newark; also six grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Dora Swick of Newark. A son Sidney Dean is deceased, and two sisters and a brother also preceded her in death.
Her son-in-law Harry M. Krumlauf, former Newark resident, who is a member of the news staff of Columbus Dispatch, was a former wire editor and later city editor of the Newark Advocate.
The Rev. A.D. Barham will officiate at services at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
