Pfc. Carl R. Basinger, Sarepta, was one of the veterans who arrived in the states aboard the U.S.S. Admiral Hugh Rodman, navy transport, which docked in Seattle the first of the month. Rodman (sic) will be processed at an army center prior to his discharge.

Funeral services for Carl R. "Poppy" Bassinger, Sr. will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the Bailey Mortuary Chapel with Bro. Greg Griffith officiating. Burial, with full military graveside rites, will be held in the Old Sarepta Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary, Springhill, LA.

Mr. Bassinger, a lifelong resident of this area died Wednesday, March 3, 2010 in Minden, LA. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church, a veteran of World War II serving in the US Army and was a retired employee of International Paper Company.

He is preceded in death by brothers, Frank Basinger, Jr., Murphy Basinger, John D. Basinger, Nolan Basinger, Leo "Sonny" Staggs and James Basinger; sisters, Marjorie Burks, Florence Morgan and Leola Staggs; and, a great-granddaughter, Amber Ludlam.

He is survived by sons, Carl R. "Rudy" Bassinger, Jr. and wife, Jennifer of Springhill, LA; Carl E. "Jay" Bassinger of Jacksonville, FL; daughters, Kathy Griffin and husband, David of Fayetteville, AR; Sharon Bassinger of Springhill, LA; Carla Bledsoe and husband, Kip of Frisco, TX; sisters, Joyce Boyett of Shreveport, LA and Carolyn Palmer of Sarepta, LA; brothers, Billy Basinger of Trinity, TX and Eugene Basinger of West Memphis, AR; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, March 5, at Bailey Mortuary.
