STAUNTON-George Raymond Arehart, 56, of 2408 Noon St., a retired barber, died at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday in King's Daughters' Hospital following an illness extending from May 1965.
He was born Jan. 5, 1912, in Middlebrook, a son of the late Henry O. and Nora Bell Hawpe Arehart.
Mr. Arehart was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served as boatswain's mate first class aboard the USS Chickadee and the USS Tattmall. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Olivet Presbyterian Church.
On June 9, 1934, he married the former Lola Frances Nuckoles, who survives. He is also survived by a son, Raymond A. Arehart of Arvade, Col; three sisters, Mrs. Aimee Coffman and Mrs. John A. Croft, both of Staunton, and Mrs. T. J. Lotts of Waynesboro; six brothers, Oscar L. Arehart of Fishersville, Christian Arehart and Carey D. Arehart of Staunton; Houston Arehart and Allen Arehart of Newport News, and Curtis Arehart of Hampton; also two grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 P.M. Friday in Olivet Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. L. Eugene Jordan. Burial will be in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Roy M. Lotts, Ernest Anthony, Douglas R. Davis, N. Kyle Foster, George T. Trimble, Lloyd Hutchens, and Roy Croft.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. J. G. Crawford, Francis Coffman, Beard Coffman, Erskine Arehart, Forrest Arehart, Carey B. Arehart, Wayne Nuckoles, Donald Nuckoles, Richard Lotts, Wayne Arehart and Edwin Arehart.
The body will remain at the Fred Henry Funeral Home until 1 p.m. Friday when it will be placed in the church.
Friends will be received at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight.
