Services Held Wednesday for Mrs. Gertie Nelson - Funeral services were conducted from the Gilbert Chapel in Dixon Wednesday at 2 p.m. for Mrs. Gertie Nelson, who died at Fort Wood Hospital Saturday. The Rev. Wilson Davis officiated with interment in Kenner Cemetery.
Gertie Elizabeth Nelson, daughter of the late Louis [sic] and Mary Ellen Minzes, was born in Maries County, Missouri on July 22, 1901 and at her passing had attained the age of 66 years, four months and 24 days.
On May 9, 1917 she was united in marriage to Tom Nelson and to this union three children were born. Her husband and one son, Franklin, preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sons, George, serving with the U.S. Army in Anchorage, Alaska, and Robert, of Dixon; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She also leaves four brothers, Willie and Henry of St. Louis; two sister, Mrs. America Smith and Mrs. Martha Blackwell of Dixon, besides other relatives.
At an early age she accepted Christ as her Personal Saviour and lived a Christian life. [Note: Gertie Nelson's father was Alexander Franklin Minzes, not Louis Minzes.]
