She is the daughter of Alexander Franklin Minzes and Mary Ellen "Ellie" (Bull) Minzes. She was born in the Dry Creek area of Maries County. She married Louis Alfred Smith on Feb 18, 1912 at the age of 18. Alfred was 34. They had 6 children: Kenneth, Yale, Theodore, Elery, Geneva, and Don. For many years she lived in a little house on Hwy 28 just across from the power station. The house still stands today but has been fixed up and additions were put on to it. Her sister Martha Blackwell had lived next door to her. She would often make homemade bread and she would let her little great grandson Chris have a bite of it before she baked it. She had been called Amerikey(spelling?) by many who knew her.
