Walnut- Mrs. Philomena Westhoff, 92, the last surviving member of one of this community's pioneer families, and one of the oldest residents, died Thursday at the home of her daughter, Agnes Hammerbacher, of Girard.
She was born in Ottumwa, Iowa, on March 27, 1848, and married John Westhoff there on June 16, 1867. They moved to this area in 1869 and settled on their farm six miles east of St. Paul in 1870. She was bed-fast for the last five years, and she leaves behind, 118 surviving descendants.
Funeral was held at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Girard, conducted by Rev. Father Casimir and buried in Greenbush Cemetery.
