Phillip Edward Stephan was born in July 1843 in Washington, Muskingham Co.,Ohio. His father John Adam b1805 was 38 and his mother Elizabeth Morgen Stephan was 35. He married Rhoda Ann Gristy on June 16, 1867, in Ottumwa, Iowa.(He shared a Dual Wedding with his brother Adam John who married Margaret Gristy-Rhoda's cousin on the same date) They had eight children in the 23 years between 1868 and 1889. It appears that he alternated living between Iowa & Kansas through the years, and lived out the last 15 years of his life in Kansas. He passed away on January 8, 1917 in Arcadia, Kansas at the age of 73. His wife Rhoda lived until 1933 and they are buried together in this cemetery.
