Adam John Stephan was born on April 20, 1841 in Washington,Muskingum Co, Ohio. His father John Adam Stephan b1805 in Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany was 36 and his mother Elizabeth Morgen was 33. Adam lived his early years in Ohio, but was living in Ottumwa,Iowa when He married Margaret Gristy on June 16, 1867. (apparently there was a Triple Wedding this day as Adam's brother Philip b1844 married Margaret's cousin Rhoda Ann Gristy on the same day as well as another Cousin that were all married the same day) By 1870 he was living in Crawford Co, Kansas where they had 13 children in the 25 years between 1867 and 1891. Adam himself had 7 brothers & sisters so came from a large family. His father Adam was known to have been living in New York as early as 1832 where Adam's sister Katherine was born. (1832 was the year my G/grandfather Adam b1813 immigrated along with his Great Uncle Adam Stephan b1778 (Uncle to Adam of 1805 also) into Adams Co, Pennsylvania.) Adam's father John Adam was living nearby in Leavenworth Co, Kansas where he died in 1882. This Adam passed away on November 13, 1928 in Walnut, Crawford Co, Kansas at the age of 87. His Great grandfather was an Adam Stephan b1775 - d1825 in Darmstadt, Germany. My Great Grandfather -Johan Georg Stephan was born in 1787.This Family line goes back 10 generations to a Georg Stephan b1520 in Heppenheim, Hessen, a german principality now part of the country of Germany. This Adam Stephan was my 2nd Cousin 2X removed, We had the same Ancestor in a Peter Stephan b1748 father to both Adam of 1775 & Johan George of 1787.(Written by a Stephan Grandson)
