Marvin Bird, of Davenport, died Wednesday, September 14, 2005, at his home. Celebration of Life services will be 10 a.m. Monday, September 19, at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. He was born December 21, 1932, in Eliza, Illinois, to Tony and Medridth (Richards) Bird. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He married Della Doss on September 10, 1954, in Davenport. He was a Lead Man with Occidental Chemical Company, Buffalo, Iowa, retiring in 1997. He also worked as grounds keeper at the Credit Island Golf Course, Davenport. In addition to golfing, he enjoyed working in his yard. Survivors include his wife, Della; daughters, Debbie (Rick) Land, of Illinois, and Lori (Dan) Bingham and Joni (Keith) Chandler, all of Davenport; sons, Randy (Patty) Bird, of Bettendorf, Rick Bird, of Ohio, and Mark Bird and Todd (Jennifer) Bird, all of Davenport; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; mother and stepfather, Medridth and Alvin Messenger; sisters, Jeanette, Carol and Judy; and brothers, Dale and Jerry Bird. He was preceded in death by brothers, Edger and Joseph.
