Charles E. Carter, age 66 years, of Houston, Texas died at the Heights' Hospital in Houston on Wednesday, February 6, after a short illness. Funeral services conducted by Rev. E.A. Wilkson was held at the Heights hosital [sic] funeral home Thursday, after which the body was brought to the home of his sister, Mrs. Carroll Merritt in Gibsland. A short service was conducted in the home Friday at 2 p.m. by Rev. W.H. Conner, pastor of the Gibsland Baptist Church, before leaving for the Mt. Lebanon cemetery where he was buried. The funeral was directed by the Green-Kleinegger funeral home in Minden.
Pallbearers were his nephews, Edward and Carter Caldwell, Dean Carter, Hilton Forester, W.L. Houser, and Douglas Stewart.
The deceased is survived by his widow; three sisters, Mrs. Lula Caldwell, Slaton Texas, Mrs. Harry Plaster, and Mrs. Carroll Merritt, Gibsland; three brothers, W.P. Carter and L.H. Carter, Monroe, and C.M. Carter, Gibsland. Mr. Carter lived in Houston many years and had many friends there. He was a member of the Baptist church, having joined the church in Mt. Lebanon when very young. All members of the family were with him when he passed away.
