Smith, Merrilea, 76 of Edmond, was born June 2nd 1926 in Edmond, Okla. Merrilea was a life long Edmond resident and graduate of Edmond Normal School. She was retired as a PBX [telephone] operator at U.C.O. [University of Central Oklahoma] after many many years of service. She was a member of the Edmond Church of Christ all her life and her church was her love and main focus. She was a member of the Edmond Historical Society and N.A.R.F.E. Merrilea also had worked at the Edmond Hospital. Her smile always brightened everyones mood. She passed away on Oct. 3rd, 2002 in Edmond. Her survivors include: duaghters and sons-in-law, Sheila and Bruce Wilkerson, Sherry Halley, Carolyn and Dr. Bob Palmer of Bethany; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ernest and LaNelle Weiss, Larry and Mary Weiss, Lannie Weiss; sisters and brothers-in-law Louise Perry, Shirly and Ralph Smeltzer, sister-in-law Neoma Weiss; grandchildren John Halley and Ryand Billingsley; numerous nieces and nephews and many many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Virgil Smith, brother Charlie Weiss. Services are 11:00a.m. Monday October 7th, 2002 at Edmond Church of Christ with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery Edmond. Services under direction of Matthews Funeral Home.
