Shirley Smeltzer went to her eternal home on July 15, 2009. She was born in Edmond on July 30, 1923, the granddaughter of an Oklahoma land rush homesteader. She is preceded in death by parents, L.R. and Elsie Weiss; Siblings: Louise Perry, Mary Smith, Charles Weiss, Ernest Weiss; and a beloved son, Ernest Paul Smeltzer. Survived by husband of 65 years, Ralph Smeltzer; Children: Lynn (and Katrina) Smeltzer, Harvey (and Debi) Smeltzer, Jill Brothers; Brothers: Larry (and Mary) Weiss and Lanny Weiss; Grandchildren: Matthew (and Laura) Smeltzer, Natalie Smeltzer, Jennifer Smeltzer, Megan Smeltzer, Kaitlyn Smeltzer, Ryan Brothers, Brittany Brothers; and a host of other close family and friends. Shirley was a longtime member of the Edmond Church of Christ. She served her country by working at Tinker Field during WW II. A wonderful homemaker and hostess, her home was open to many. She was a devoted church worker with a true servant's heart. We will miss her, but know we will be with her again. Formal Visitation will be from 5pm until 7pm on Friday at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2009, at the Edmond Church of Christ, with interment at Gracelawn Cemetery.
