RETIRED FARMER, J. A. MATTINGLY, NEW HAVEN DIES
Joseph Arthur Mattingly, 78, retired Farmer, Rt. 1, New Haven, died suddenly about 1 p.m. Sunday, September 18, at his home near New Hope. He had been ill of a heart condition about eight months, but death was unexpected. Born in Marion County, he had lived most of his life in Nelson County. He and his wife, the former Minnie Lee Nalley, had been married 59 years. Surviving are his wife; three sons, Jos. Louis and Jos. "Bunk" Linton Mattingly, both of New Haven, Rt. 1; George Rodney Mattingly, Loretto, Rt. 2; one daughter, Mrs. Estel (Earnette) Ballard, New Hope; one brother, Bernard Mattingly, St. Francis; three half-brothers, Jos. Walter, Jos. Aaron and Eugene Mattingly, all of Raywick; a half-sister, Mrs. Ada Simms, St. Francis; 40 grandchildren and 61 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent dePaul Church, New Hope, with the former pastor, Rev. Bernard Boone, now pastor at St. Gregory, Samuels, celebrant of the Requiem Mass. Burial was in the church cemetery. The body was at Mattingly Funeral Home, Loretto.
