KENTUCKY STANDARD OBITUARY - 01/23/1985
George R. Mattingly, 71. A former Loretto resident, George Rodney Mattingly, 71, of Bardstown, died at 2:35 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20 in Bardstown of an apparent heart attack. He was a retired employee of the old J. W. Dant Distillery and was born and reared at New Hope. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. John (Nancy) Donneley of Loretto; Mrs. Sam B. (Margie) Ryan and Mrs. Sam (Rita) Butler, both of Louisville; eight sons, Jimmy of New Hope; Marcy, Tommy and Danny Mattingly of Loretto; David and Frank Mattingly, both of Bardstown; Leon of Mt. Washington, and Bobby Mattingly of Holy Cross. Survivors also include 33 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Linton "Bunk" Mattingly of New Hope, and one sister, Mrs. Earnett Ballard of Loretto. Twice married, he was preceded in death by both wives, Mrs. Mary Ruby Hagan Mattingly and Mrs. Mary Viola Mattingly. The funeral mass will be offered at 11 a.m. today at St. Francis of Assisi Church, St. Francis, with burial in St. Vincent dePaul Church Cemetery, New Hope; Section 3. The body is at the Mattingly Funeral Home, Loretto, where a prayer service was conducted Tuesday evening.
