Harold E. McCALLA Sr., 79, 701 Monroe St., Rochester, died at 8:31 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Medical Center, Plymouth.
Born on April 8, 1924, to Chester and Hulda GILLILAND McCALLA in Peru, he married Blanche J. SHANNON on Nov. 26, 1949, in Rochester.
He worked in South Bend for the former Studebaker Plant and at A.M. General for 34 years before retiring in 1984. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having served in the Pacific Theater. He was a life member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, Eagles Lodge and Moose Lodge where he was in the Legion of Moose and the Moose Fellowship. He attended First Church of God, Rochester, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Survivors include his wife, Blanche J. McCALLA, Rochester; one daughter, Judy and husband Barry PETERSON, Rochester; one son, Harold E. McCALLA Jr. and wife Donna, Rochester; four grandchildren, Brian PETERSON and wife Tracy, Warsaw, Amy Jo and husband Shawn ELLIOTT, Laingsburg, Mich., Jayme R. McCALLA and fiance Mike PARKER, Rochester, Jayson H. McCALLA, Rochester; four great-grandchildren, Haley and Emily PETERSON, Warsaw, Austin and Joshua ELLIOTT, Laingsburg, Mich.; and four sisters, Florence WOOD, Marjorie MILLER, Patricia LAMB, Barbara CLARK, all of Rochester. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, with Rev. David DITTMAN officiating. Burial will be at IOOF Cemetery, Rochester. American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts will conduct military graveside rites. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today and one hour before services. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
