Hazel Buchanan
Pauline Heinzmann and
Thomas Lee Meredith
Three persons were killed and a high school basketball coarch critically injured early Sunday morning in a head-on crash one mile southwest of Talma on State Road 25, the second such accident in Fulton county in the past eight days.
Dead are Mrs. George (Hazel) BUCHANAN, 44, 936 Park street, Rochester, Mrs. Pauline HEINZMANN, 41, R.R. 3, Rochester, and Thomas Lee MEREDITH, 35, R.R. 1, Mentone. All three were killed instantly.
Wilbur Lee MEYER, 32, Tippecanoe high school basketball coach, sustained a fractured skull, a fractured leg, severe lacerations, and numerous cuts and bruises. He was rushed to the Woodlawn hospital here and later taken to the Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis. Meyer was listed as in "serious" condition this morning.
Mrs. Buchanan and Meredith were riding in one of the cars and Mrs. Heinzemann and Meyer in the other. Mrs. Buchanan was driving a 1954 Chevrolet and Meyer a 1955 Mercuty. Both cars are a total loss.
Sheriff Laurence NORRIS said the Buchanan car swerved into the path of the Meyer vehicle and the two cars met head-on. The tragedy occurrd about 1 a.m.
Sheriff Noris said the Meyer vehicle left skid marks for about 43 feet from the point of the impact. No estimate of speed was given by the sheriff. The Meyer-operated vehicle was traveling southwest and the Buchanan-driven car was heading northeast.
All three deaths were caused by skull fractures.
The deaths Sunday raised Fulton county's highway toll total to six in eight days. Two Logansport persons and an Akron man were killed March 31 on State Road 25 south of Rochester in an accident almost identical with the one early Sunday morning.

Hazel Irene McCALLA BUCHANAN was born June 15, 1912, at Wagoner Station in Miami county to Chester and Hulda GILLILAND McCALLA. She had lived in Rochester for the past 27 yeas. She was married at Orleans to George P. BUCHANAN on April 29, 1948. He died in 1952.
