He was born March 26, 1921 in Holladay, Utah to Archie Edward and Rose Butterfield Bess.
He served his country as a soldier in World War II. He married Catherine Bedeger on May 10, 1941 and their marriage was solemnized in the Jordan River Temple on December 8, 1987. They have raised four sons and two daughters.
Occupations included furniture maker, mechanic, and insulation foreman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, and gardening. Member of the LDS Church, serving as a High Priest and a Home Teacher.
Survivors include his wife, Midvale; children, Kenneth, Bountiful; Archie, West Virginia; Jerry, Mapleton; Ron, West Jordan; Mrs. Johnny (Kaylene) Arvezo, Grantsville; Karen Everill, Riverton; twenty-one grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, four sisters, Val Bess, South Salt Lake; Billy Bess, Elko, Nevada; Afton Edwards, Salt Lake; Mrs. Jack (Laura) Stephensen, Bluffdale; Mrs. Keith (Ardonna) Bowden, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Vaughn (Betty Jean) Barker, Murray.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 12:00 p.m. in the East Midvale Fourth Ward Chapel, 87 East 7100 South, friends may call on Sunday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Steret (100 East), and Monday at the Church one hour prior to the services.
Interment: Larkin Sunset Gardens.
