Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend Afton Amelia Edwards, age 85, passed away January 7, 2011.

Afton was born May 13, 1925 in Holladay, Utah to Archie E. Bess and Rose Butterfield. She married Fred Harry Edwards on June 18, 1942 in Salt Lake City, Utah and was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Afton was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her love, dedication and service to her family were her lifelong priorities.

In addition, she was an expert in the art of candy making and professional hand-dipped chocolates for more than 27 years. Her baking skills were unmatched and her knitting, embroidery, crochet and handiwork were recognized with countless Blue Ribbons.

Survived by children, William H. (Jan) Edwards, Fred S. (Corinne) Edwards, Annette Helming, Susan (James) Edmondson, Vicki Johnson, Connie (Jeffrey) Simister, 25 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; brothers, Val (Jan) and Bill Bess (Theda); and sisters, Ardonna Bowden (Keith) and Laura Stephenson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, son, Edward L. Edwards, her parents, brothers, Archie and Wayne Bess and sisters, Rose Gillies and Betty Jean Barker.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. in the Park Stake First Ward chapel, 760 East 700 South. A viewing will be held at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary Tuesday, January 11, 2011, from 6-8:00 P.M., 4760 South State Street and at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
