Expert Mason Contractor is Dead

Charles H. Kilmer Worked on Most Beautiful of Berkshire Estates

Charles H. Kilmer Sr., 84, retired mason contractor, died last night at his home, 40 Charles Street, after a month's illness. Mr. Kilmer was born in Red Hook, N.Y. , March 6, 1853, and lived in Lenox. He came to Pittsfield in 1913. Mr. Kilmer in addition to being a mason contractor, was an expert on ornate fireplaces and worked at some of the most beautiful homes in Lenox, including those of Mrs. Henry White, Giraud Foster, Shadowbrook, the Berkshires Hunt County Club and Harris Fahnestock.

In November, 1896, Mr. Kilmer married Miss Catherine Gately of Lee. Mr. Kilmer was president at one time of the Old Berkshire Club, organized in 1919 on Depot Street. The survivors are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Leigh Blaney, and two sons, Charles H. Jr. and Raymond L. Kilmer, all of this city.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10 at the home, 40 Charles Street.
