Alice Pearl Baze 1916 - 2006

ALTON

Alice Pearl Baze, 90 of Alton, and formerly of Walkerville and Hillview, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, at Eldercare Nursing Home in Alton.

She was born April 13, 1916, in Walkerville, the daughter of Joshua James and Bessie Elizabeth Pence Ward. She married Charlie A. Baze on Dec. 9,1933, in Hillview, and he preceded her in death June 25, 2001.

She is survived by five sons, Charlie of Dumas, Texas, James and Tim, both of Alton, Robert Baze of Hardin and Jack of Brighton; three daughters, Doris "Dottie" Harbison of Wood River, Joella Baze of Hardin and Geneva Duff of Eddyville, Ky.; 30 grandchildren; several great-granchildren; several great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Loren Ward of Wood River and Paul Ward of Bethalto; and two sisters, Lillian Kirgan of White Hall and Della "Sis" Betz of Alton. She was preceded in death by one son, Vernon H.; two brothers, Lorenzo Ward and Leonard Ward; and one sister, Hilda McGlasson Coates.

Mrs. Baze was a farm wife, helping her husband on their farm near Walkerville. She enjoyed fishing with her husband and gardening and canning her produce. She especially loved when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren came to visit. She was a long-time member of the Walkerville Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall, with burial at Walkerville Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Walkerville Baptist Church. Condolences may be left online at www.airsman-hires.com.
